HELPFUL: Use The 24-7 Diet Log
Simplify, simplify, simplify. The 24/7 Diet is Project 20Teen’s simple, everyday, lifelong strategy for a healthy weight and life. It consists of three things – simple in concept, simpler than most diets, but still requiring effort:
- Exercise 20 minutes daily (we define exercise as anything that gets you huffing and puffing).
- Follow The 4:1 Rule of healthy eating (which will get a lot easier with P20T’s prime directive of encouraging restaurants to prepare meals that qualify).
- Get 7 hours of quality sleep every night.
Each of these components is critical, and all are related. If you don’t sleep well, you feel stressed all day, and you are too tired to exercise. Exercise is a great stress reducer, and helps you sleep better. The more stressed you are, the harder it is to sleep, and the less healthy you eat. Those who are successful at doing each of these three things have the highest likelihood of having energy, health, and an overall sense of well-being.
If any of the above steps seem impossible or unlikely, start wherever you are and slowly move, in livable steps, in the right direction. For example, you may wish to start with “The 10-1-6 Diet” (10 minutes of daily exercise, following The 1:1 Rule, and getting 6 hours of quality sleep nightly).
On the other hand, you may get to the point where you are following The 24/7 Diet and it still isn’t working adequately. You may need to move to “The 30-10-8 Diet” or any variation thereof that works for you. No matter how you do it, it is imperative only to make changes that you can maintain forever.
